CARRYING the WORD into the week...

August 31, 2016
By Rev. Mark Verbruggen
The tomb of Sarah was a symbol of Abraham's loss, but it became a symbol of a GUARANTEED INHERITANCE. As Christians, we now look BEYOND the CAVE and see the EMPTY TOMB of Christ as our source of ENCOURAGEMENT and HOPE. The empty tomb is our GUARANTEE of our future INHERITANCE.

CARRYING the WORD into the week...

By FAITH we come to KNOW Jesus as our SAVIOR and LORD. This gives us HOPE for the present and the future. As a result, we live a life of LOVE for God and our neighbor. ALL OF THIS is our WORSHIP and therefore in Kingdom living EVERYTHING IS WORSHIP. This "worship", or if you prefer "service", is not just an additional activity we schedule into our weekly routine. No, for us TO LIVE IS TO WORSHIP the Lord in ALL THAT WE DO.

From Sunday's morning sermon | HEBREWS: EVERYTHING IS WORSHIP | Scripture: Hebrews 10:19-25 | Listen to sermon online | Watch video of service

We BELONG to a covenant God who has SEEN and HEARD and ACTED on our behalf. The Gospel tells us that God CARES and God HAS COME to us in the WORD MADE FLESH, our Lord, Jesus Christ, so that we may now HAVE CONFIDENCE to live in the VERY PRESENCE of God.

CARRYING the WORD into the week...

August 25, 2016
By Rev. Mark Verbruggen
As God's people today who have seen the FULFILLMENT of the COVENANT IN CHRIST, we can have the same assurance as Abraham that God WILL BE TRUE to His WORD.  BY FAITH we believe our SALVATION HAS COME, this WORLD BELONGS to God, and our future IS SECURE. No trial, no temptation, no misery, no evil force can take this assurance away from us.
NOTHING in heaven or on earth can separate us from the LOVE of God that is IN CHRIST JESUS, our LORD. In life and in death we BELONG TO HIM.

From Sunday's evening sermon | ABRAHAM: BEHOLD THE LAMB OF GOD | Scripture: Genesis 22:1-19 | Listen to sermon online | Watch video of service

In this life we have an ASSURANCE from God IN CHRIST that ALL WE NEED for eternal life HAS BEEN PROVIDED. God keeps His promises and we can REST in this knowledge. This is what it means to confess that OUR ONLY COMFORT in life and in death is that WE BELONG TO JESUS CHRIST.

Head and heart, hands and feet, mouth and ears - our WHOLE BEING is to be in HARMONY with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, which DECLARES us ABSOLUTELY FORGIVEN and INVITED to participate in the NEW LIFE of the NEW CREATION. We can "LIVE ALL OUT for GOD" because the veil, the curtain has come down and WE LIVE our lives before the FACE of GOD.

From Sunday's morning sermon | HEBREWS: EVERYTHING IS MEANINGFUL | Scripture: Hebrews 9 | Listen to sermon online | Watch video of service

CARRYING the WORD into the week...

By Rev. Mark Verbruggen
When the KINGDOM of GOD, the New Creation, INVADES this world's time and space, then we NO LONGER LIVE JUST FOR OURSELVES, our family, our career, our educational goals, and so forth. ALL these good things are now taken up into a "heavenly vision" or "Kingdom perspective", because for us TO LIVE is TO LIVE FOR CHRIST and His SOVEREIGN RULE. EVERYTHING is MEANINGFUL because the life of heaven HAS COME into our lives on earth.

From Sunday's morning sermon | HEBREWS: EVERYTHING IS MEANINGFUL | Scripture: Hebrews 9 | Listen to sermon online | Watch video of service

CARRYING the WORD into the week...

To understand God's choice of Isaac and to understand the Biblical narrative as a whole, it is essential to understand that God is not "fair", but "merciful". The God who CHOOSES to enter into a RELATIONSHIP with His people, does so FOR NO OTHER REASON than His MERCY and GRACE. To BE A PART of the COVENANT FAMILY, blessed with ETERNAL LIFE in Jesus Christ, is a GIFT of GRACE.

EVERYTHING is GETTER BETTER because of God and His SON, Jesus Christ. God has PROMISED and DELIVERED a NEW COVENANT relationship to those He has given a NEW HEART, a BETTER KNOWLEDGE, and ABSOLUTE FORGIVENESS. It ALL HAPPENS in Jesus Christ, whom the writer of Hebrews calls the "PIONEER and PERFECTER of our faith."

CARRYING the WORD into the week...

The IMPOSSIBLE GOSPEL is now made POSSIBLE in Christ. When we SET OUR EYES on Abraham's GREATER SON, our Lord Jesus Christ, then we have a NEW NAME, and an ETERNAL INHERITANCE. We are NAMED IN CHRIST and have received an inheritance in the KINGDOM of GOD. With the Church of all times and places, this LIVING and ACTIVE Gospel INVADES our hearts and lives. Jesus says, "Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh."

From Sunday's morning sermon | ABRAHAM: BLESSED ARE THOSE WHO WILL LAUGH | Scripture: Genesis 17| Listen to sermon online

CARRYING the WORD into the week...

August 03, 2016
By Rev. Mark Verbruggen
The Gospel in Genesis 17, as in the Bible as a whole, calls for FAITH in a God who BRINGS LIFE where it is IMPOSSIBLE. The SOVEREIGN GOD, who called the universe into existence, can even BRING LIFE from the dead. It was in a moment of apparent defeat, when Jesus (the "Seed of Abraham") stretched out His arms on the cross and died, that OUR VICTORY was WON. Through Christ's death and His resurrection, NEW LIFE is BORN in us and this world - ALREADY NOW.
As Christians, we are asked to BELIEVE in that which, from a human standpoint, is IMPOSSIBLE. But WITH GOD it is ALREADY TRUE.

From Sunday's morning sermon | ABRAHAM: BLESSED ARE THOSE WHO WILL LAUGH | Scripture: Genesis 17| Listen to sermon online

CARRYING the WORD into the week...

Apart from FAITH, it is IMPOSSIBLE to believe. Name changes, an INHERITANCE, and a COVENANT PROMISE are meaningless, unless we, like Abraham, GIVE OURSELVES OVER to the WORD and SIMPLY BELIEVE. FAITH is not something you can manage, control, or bend to your will. It is a WORK OF GOD through the Holy Spirit who makes the Word LIVING and ACTIVE.

From Sunday's morning sermon | ABRAHAM: BLESSED ARE THOSE WHO WILL LAUGH | Scripture: Genesis 17| Listen to sermon online
